Guest Book

Thank you for visiting with Charles Lyonhart!   Charles would love to hear from you so please feel free to Add to this guest book !

hi; my name is michael christian i've been in music in new york since the early sixties of the brill bldg. and was part of the n.y. scene with jimmy calvert, norman marzano; ritchie cordell and bo gentry, i had my first records out with these guys as my mentors. i   am so deeply saddened over the last year or so finding out of the passing of so many of my important teachers who i was always proud to call friends.      first of all i would like to extend my sincerest sympathies and support to the families of those gone.  especially ritchie cordell's  family and so many others such as terry formerly norman marzano's wife and marcella their daughter.  I will miss these people greatly,  i loved them all.  i am a minister now and my music is mostly contemporary christian of which i have done much recording over the last 20 years or so.  still always, i go back to many of the forms and methods i picked up working with calvert, marzano cordell gentry and those guys as well as some r and b legends i sat under while working at a-1 sound as a gopher in the sixties thru another old friend of mine jim reeves.  former columbia engineer of a large roster of columbia artists including simon and garfunkel, bobby vinton, tom rush, chambers bros, edgar winter, and so many many more.  the music business has changed so over the last 20 to 25 years and the generation that was then is fading and anew generation has emerged. music is constantly morphing and the most important thing is not to try to keep up with trends as keeping up with your own natural progression in the strengths and giftings of your own talents. self growth, not copying what someone else has done or trying to do your version of that but doing what is natural to you not paying attention to whether it is right or wrong to the masses.  it is a distinct honor to have been and still be a part of the generation that gave us an expanse that reached from r and b to woodstock folk and bubble gum.  maybe some day our proper place in history will truly be established and recognized.  god bless you all and keep playing on.  i will be praying for you all.   michael christian.

I would like to thank you for mentioning Ritchie Cordell's passing on your site.  I was married to one of his sidemen, Norman Marzano of the Tradewinds, and the Videls, and spent many happy years with Ritchie and Bo Gentry.  In fact, the money made from laying the tracks, both vocal and instrumental that was paid to Norman, ended up paying the hospital bill for our daughter, Marcella's delivery on May 27, 1968.  I have many wonderful memories of Ritchie, who was one of the most sensitive and sweetest guys you could ever want  to come through your door, and spend quality time with you.  He was truly one of the nicest people I ever knew.  I found out about  his passing on August 11th, when I called our long-time
friend, Barbara Anders, to tell her that Norman had passed away on August 9th.  This has been one hell of a year with the loss of so many, including Ray Charles.
It's always such a shock, because you never expect it to happen so soon.
Thank you for providing this opportunity to share my thoughts about Ritchie, and our part of the music world in New York City of 30 years ago.
Sincerely,
Terry Mauro [Marzano]

It is nice to see that Charles is finally getting some of the attention and recognition that he so deserves. As a writer and performer of extraordinary capabilities, I always thought he would hit it "big" so to say. I had the honor and privilege to work with Charles in the early 70's and mid eighties. He produced some of my songs and it was a real treat to work with him. I wish him only the best. Go get em Lyonhart! A writer in the ranks of Zevon, Dylan and John Lennon!

As a musician who has played with Charles I am glad to see him getting some well deserved exposure. His songs do indeed have the ability to awaken that certain feeling in ones self to make the experience your own. Charlie, the site looks great. I hope to see you soon.....J

I enjoy listening to Charles Lyonhart immensely. Why this man does not tour the country is a mystery that needs to be unfolded. He is what a genuine artist in every sense of the word. Like his mentors, Edgar Allan Poe, William Burroughs, Bob Dylan and Lenny Bruce, he makes us look at ourselves, question, pause and think about things most people don't want to think about. Sad as it may be he will probably be accessible to the masses long after his demise much like Emily Dickinson who is his eternal soullmate! I'm going down to the hard line just one mo time!

I love your music. Why can't I turn on my radio and hear Charles Lyonhart instead of 95% of the hip hop, crap and commercial trash that dominates the airwaves. So, you are not as pretty as Brittany Spears, you sure can write them!

Charles is an artist who will hopefully be "discovered" in his lifetime. His work is top rate and I only wish that I could hear more of it played in the main stream. How does he write such lyrics?

Great site for a great guy! Good luck in all you do, Charles. I have a goal to one day hear "Shades of Black, Shades of Blue" live and in person! It's one of those songs that does something to your soul. I'm sure you'll write many more.
